0-1 DayICL (Implantable Collamer Lens) surgery is a vision correction procedure designed to treat moderate to severe nearsightedness (myopia), with or without astigmatism. Unlike LASIK or PRK, which reshape the cornea, ICL involves implanting a specialized lens inside the eye to enhance focus. This lens works with the eye's natural lens to provide sharp and stable vision without removing any corneal tissue. It’s an ideal option for patients who are not suitable candidates for laser-based refractive surgery.
The ICL is a soft, biocompatible lens made from Collamer, a material that is well-tolerated by the eye. Once implanted between the iris and the eye’s natural lens, it provides permanent correction for refractive errors. The lens is invisible and doesn’t interfere with normal visual functions. It simply enhances the eye’s focusing power, helping patients achieve clear vision without glasses or contact lenses.
ICL surgery is recommended for adults aged 21 to 45 with stable vision and high degrees of myopia (typically between -3.00 to -20.00 diopters), especially when corneal thickness is inadequate for LASIK. It is also suitable for patients with dry eyes, thin corneas, or other contraindications to corneal-based procedures. A detailed pre-surgical evaluation by an ophthalmologist is required to determine eligibility.
ICL surgery is a quick and minimally invasive outpatient procedure that usually takes 15 to 30 minutes per eye. The patient is given numbing eye drops, and a tiny incision is made to insert the folded lens. Once inside the eye, the lens unfolds and is precisely positioned behind the iris. Since the incision is small, it typically does not require sutures. Most patients are awake during the procedure, and there is minimal discomfort.

Recovery from ICL surgery is generally fast. Many patients notice improved vision within 24 hours. Eye drops are prescribed to prevent infection and inflammation, and follow-up visits are scheduled to monitor healing. It’s important to avoid rubbing the eyes, swimming, or strenuous activities for a short period. Vision continues to stabilize over a few weeks, with most people achieving excellent clarity.
Yes, ICL surgery has been proven to be safe and effective through years of clinical use. The procedure is reversible, which means the lens can be removed or replaced if needed. Complications are rare but may include increased intraocular pressure, infection, or night vision disturbances. Choosing an experienced surgeon significantly reduces the risk of adverse effects.
No, the implanted lens is not visible to others. It is positioned behind the iris (the colored part of the eye), which keeps it hidden from view. Patients do not feel the lens, and it does not move or interfere with normal eye movement or blinking.
