• Dr. Vivek Vij is a trailblazing liver transplant surgeon renowned for his pivotal role in advancing living donor liver transplant surgery. He is credited with developing and implementing safety protocols that have ensured a 100% donor safety profile since the inception of living donor transplants in India. As the first surgeon from the Indian subcontinent to publish a series on laparoscopic donor hepatectomy in the prestigious journal Liver Transplantation, Dr. Vij’s contributions to the field are groundbreaking.
• Dr. Vij established the Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Sciences division within the Fortis Hospitals group, launching a highly successful liver transplant program initially at the Noida center, followed by its expansion to Mohali. Under his leadership, his team has performed over 2,500 liver transplants, achieving a remarkable 95% patient success rate and a 100% donor success rate, with most of these surgeries performed at Fortis Hospital, Noida. His expertise has led to the lowest biliary complication rate (<4%) in Living Donor Liver Transplant (LDLT) worldwide.
